Norman Justice BoggsCherokee, United Lumbee NationNovember 28th 1932 - July 6th 2004 You always had a way of sneaking up behind me when we were getting ready to run at the match races and asking "Can that horse run?" "Yeah she can run." I'd say. "Well, can she get turned around? That's half the race you know..." "Yeah Dad, she can fly..." You never missed a race in 10 years of me hauling horses out there to run them, you always supported me in my riding, and barrel racing, and you hauled me everywhere when I was kid so I could rodeo. I remember asking you once if you would go back and buy that first horse again if you had known what you were getting started, and you just grinned and said, "yeah." I wish you could see the beautiful great-grandbabies you have, and you could spoil them with horses like you did me. I can't tell you how much I miss you, there's just nothing to take your place. All I can do now is look back and remember the wonderful times we shared together, and say every time I go in to make a run, "OK, Papaw... This one's for you!!" I hope you can see from your place in heaven, that "That horse can run!" I love you! Gerri Submitted by Gerri Boggs. |
